The Bright Beauty Standard

At BBC, we work exclusively with brands that meet our Bright Beauty Standard and adhere to the BBC Ingredient & Labeling Standards. In meeting this Standard, brands within our portfolio demonstrate documented actions that, collectively, use beauty as a tool to change the world.

The Bright Beauty Standard consists of four key elements:

  • Product

Brands who hold a strong commitment to create thoughtful and conscious formulations while valuing high performance and innovation meet the product element of our Standard. This includes a clear, demonstrated effort to source and refine ingredients in a sustainable manner. We only work with products that contain no known harmful ingredients, especially those banned on our Ingredient & Labeling Principles. We expect that no animal testing is used in the production process. We care about product efficacy and performance and look for brands that are always creating a better way.

Examples of this include, but are not limited to:

The use of sustainably harvested or cold pressed ingredients

The use of formulations free of ingredients outlined in the BBC Ingredient & Labeling Principles

The use of certified organic and non-GMO certified ingredients

Best in class products that deliver high performing results

    Certified Cruelty-Free by Leaping Bunny

  • Planet

To us, conscious beauty goes beyond the product and considers the footprint it leaves behind. Brands who demonstrate, in some fashion, a commitment to reducing their impact on the planet and its climate meet the planet element of our Standard. This includes packaging with aspects of low or no waste materials, such as refillable product containers, recycled plastic, or recyclable metal and glass. We look for brands who use alternative energy like solar and wind power in their manufacturing process and consider water waste and conservation.

Examples of this include, but are not limited to:

    Carbon neutral certification

    Recycling programs and partnerships

    Plastic neutral or negative certification

The use of recycled or biodegradable materials in packaging

The use of renewable energy at production facilities

  • People

Ultimately, we set the Bright Beauty Standard, because we care about people. We expect the brands we work with to share that sentiment. Meeting the people element of our Standard includes a brand demonstrating a commitment to social responsibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and community impact. Our care for people extends throughout the entire supply chain.

Examples of this include, but are not limited to:

Documented diversity, equity, and inclusion policies and programs within the brand

Participation in charitable programs that benefit women and children

    Community based partnerships

An effort to ensure fair wages throughout the supply chain with Fair Trade Certified ingredients

  • Progress

Finding a better way is central to all that BBC does. Brands within our portfolio are no different. To meet the progress element of our Standard, brands display an effort to drive progress in the industry that truly creates a better world through beauty.

Examples of this include, but are not limited to:

The use of regeneratively farmed ingredients

Commitments to regular sustainability reporting and transparency
